Makoto Shinkai’s Next Film, Suzume, Releases in the US on April 14th

One of our personal favorite anime creators, Makoto Shinkai (Your Name, Weathering With You) has made ANOTHER movie and we finally know the international release date. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced today that Shinkai’s latest movie, Suzume (Suzume no Tojimari) will begin screening worldwide starting on April 12, 2023.

Crunchyroll is distributing the movie to the North American region. Crunchyroll & Sony Pictures Entertainment is distributing the film in Africa, Australia, Latin America, the Middle East, New Zealand, South America, and portions of Europe. Crunchyroll, Eurozoom. Sony Pictures Entertainment and Wild Bunch International will release the film in French and German-speaking portions of Europe.

The anime film Suzume was originally released in Japan on November 11th and has since sold over 5 million tickets making the movie about $55 million since its opening. This places the film at the 87th highest-earning film of all time at the Japanese box office.

About Suzume no Tojimari:
Seventeen-year-old Suzume discovers a mysterious door in the mountains and soon other doors begin appearing all across Japan. As the doors open they release disaster and destruction and it’s up to Suzume to close them again!

The film features the voices of Actress, Nanoka Hara (Guilty Flag, Heart Beats) and Hokuto Matsumura (Kids on the Slope, Perfect World), with character designs by Masayoshi Tanaka (Your Name, Weathering With You), animation direction by Kenichi Tsuchiya (Your Name, Garden of Words), art direction by Takumi Tanji (Your Name), and music by Radwimps and Kazuma Jinnouchi (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045).
