One Piece Film Red Becomes One of the Top Grossing Films In Japan of ALL Time!

One Piece Film Red has officially broken records in Japan, 79 days after its release in Japan the anime film has broken into the top ten highest-grossing films of all time. As of 10/23, the movie has grossed a total of 17,356 billion yen ($124 million~) and has sold 12.5 million tickets. This places the movie right above Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Bayside Shakedown 2 to earn it a ninth place on the list.

If we look at the list of highest-grossing anime films though One Piece Film Red places sixth on the list beating out the likes of Ponyo, Weathering with you, and Jujutsu Kaisen 0. For the One Piece movie to claim the 7th spot it would have to take down Howl’s Moving Castle which many believe to be unlikely as it sits at 19.6 billion yen.

One Piece Film Red after being ranked #1 for 11 consecutive weeks has finally fallen off of its throne after the release of the new SAO movie, Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Dark Dusk, and now rests at third place in this week’s box office numbers.
